Oberlungwitz, 7th of July 2024 – Consistent race for both Prima Pramac Racing riders which had been so close to making a double podium but, with three laps to go, the dream vanished leaving an important lesson for the whole team.
Jorge Martín led the race for 27 laps with a masterful pace, increasing the gap from his direct follower, Pecco Bagnaia. When victory was only two laps away, Martinator crashed, losing the Championship lead by 10 points. The following three weeks will be fundamental to thoroughly analyse the data and move forward with more confidence in the second part of the season.
Franco Morbidelli had his best race of the season so far. Franky defended the second position for the majority of the race, getting extremely close to his teammate, when Martín was leading. Recovering four positions, the Italian noticed a tiny drop in his tyres, so he finally decided to be more conservative, securing a remarkable 5th position. Morbido leaves Germany with more confidence in the bike and the certainty that he is finally competitive and knows how to have fun and get results on the bike.
The Prima Pramac Racing team now has a couple of weeks of break. From the 26th to the 28th of July, Jorge Martín and Franco Morbidelli will attend the World Ducati Week in Misano. The MotoGP™ World Championship gets back in action from the 2nd to the 4th of August in Silverstone to celebrate the Monster Energy British Grand Prix.
Jorge Martín, Prima Pramac Racing rider – Race, DNF
“It is frustrating to lead for 27 laps of 30 and crash at the very end. However, it is very important to thoroughly analyse what happened because it is the second time I have crashed when I was leading. Now that we have more data, it will be easier to understand how to improve and become an even stronger rider”.
Franco Morbidelli, Prima Pramac Racing rider – Race, P5
“I had a great day, especially in the first half of the race, and then I lost some performance. Probably, I was a bit aggressive on the tyres and couldn’t hang on until the end, but I had a lot of fun with some overtaking in the beginning and the feeling that I could get there. So that's really positive for us as a team and also for me as a rider. I’m really happy, and now we relax and arrive in Silverstone with a good injection of confidence from the last few races where the performance was very good”
