A great performance ends with a crash for Morbidelli
Montmeló, 26th May 2024 - Strong performance for Jorge Martin, which ended with the sixth GP of the season in second place, keeping the Championship lead. Bittersweet day for Franco Morbidelli, who started the race strongly but unfortunately crashed, ending his run to the podium positions.
On the day of the special livery to announce the renewal with Prima and, at the same time, to celebrate the importance of each team member, Martin consistently stepped up for the main event of the weekend. After a great start, Martinator improved his position from 7th place on the grid. Leading for the majority of the race, Martin was overtaken by Francesco Bagnaia and decided to avoid any risk, opting to collect more points for the Championship. Jorge consolidates the Championship lead with a 39-point advantage over Francesco Bagnaia.
Sunday started well for Franco Morbidelli, who made a great start, recovering several positions. Determined to achieve a great result, Morbido battled for a top-three finish until a crash at Turn 10 ended his race with seven laps remaining.
Another unmissable week is about to start for the Prima Pramac Racing riders. From the 31st of May until the 2nd of June, they will take part in the Gran Premio d’Italia Brembo.
Jorge Martin, Prima Pramac Racing rider – P2, Championship leader
“I am very pleased because from yesterday to today we have made this great step forward. I came in second after leading a large part of the race, after making important overtakes, and I have scored good points for the championship. Thanks to Miguel Caravaca who gave a spectacular touch to the pit and to my suit, where I have a dedication to mothers. This podium is for all the mums: don't worry, when we ride, we usually have a good time.”
Franco Morbidelli, Prima Pramac Racing rider – DNF
“This weekend we did another step up and I am glad because we are always closer to achieve important results. The crash I did on Saturday on my second time attack compromised the result and then, in the race, I made another mistake which compromised my results when I was pushing to achieve the podium. I have the potential to achieve a top 3 position and I am confident for the Mugello”.
